Wow, one week left before Christmas Vacation begins! We have a busy week with our Christmas Program practices, Christmas Party, and daily assignments.
This week’s memory schedule is as follows:

We are working on spelling unit 16 this week. The pretest is Monday and the final test is on Friday.
We will be having our class Christmas party in the afternoon on Thursday. Please remember to send a lunch to school with your child. Notes will be sent home reminding you what you volunteered to bring for the party. Please have the treats ready (cut, popped, frosted, etc.) and at school by noon on Thursday! Thanks to all who have already offered assistance ~ we are planning on a fun-filled afternoon. : )
The Christmas party will be held Thursday afternoon! Students should bring their wrapped gifts to school by Thursday morning and place them under the tree. Remember to sign your name on the gift that is brought!
All students are involved in the Children’s Christmas Program on Saturday, December 20 at 5:30 and 7:00 PM. We will be having a joint practice on Saturday morning, Dec. 20, from 9:00-11:30 AM. We are very excited to share the news of Jesus’ birth with you! Please plan to join us for the other special services as well.

This week we are working on spelling unit 14. The pretest is on Monday and the final test is on Friday. There is a math test this Wednesday. We are having a reading test on Where the Red Fern Grows this Wednesday. At the end of the week we will be watching the movie based on the book. With the Christmas program just around the corner we will be spending some extra time practicing the recitations and songs during the school day.
School dismisses at noon this Friday for Teacher Collaboration Day. There will be no hot lunch, but homeroom will be open from noon-6:00 PM.
The Children’s Christmas Program is Saturday, December 20 at 5:30 and 7:00 PM. The students will be participating at both of these times. There will be a practice for the program on Saturday, December 20 from 9:00-11:30 AM. The students are expected to be at this practice. Thank you!
The 5th grade will be having the class Christmas party on the afternoon of Thurs., Dec. 18. The students will exchange gifts among each other. We will not exchange names but will play a game to distribute the gifts. Please be sure to label whom the gift is from so the students can thank each other. The girls should bring a gift for a girl and the boys should bring a gift for a boy. Please limit gifts to $5. We will have some snacks for our party. Please let me know if you are willing to bring a treat to share with the class. Thanks!

Happy Thanksgiving! May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and enjoy God’s blessings of family, friends, food, and fun. May we all be reminded to live each day as a day of ‘Thanks-living’ to the Lord!
This is a shortened school week due to the Thanksgiving break. School will dismiss at noon on Wednesday. I’ll see you again on Monday, December 1. We will be busy for those three weeks preparing for the Children’s Christmas Program on Saturday, December 20 at 5:30 and 7:00 PM.
Singing change: Students who are in Jr. Choir will not be singing in church the evening of Sunday, December 7. This year there will not be an Advent Song Service, however, there will be mid-week services in December on Thursday nights at 7:15 PM. Join us as we prepare our hearts for the Savior!
The science project due date is this week Wednesday, November 26! It will be enjoyable to see the students’ hard work in their various projects this coming January.
The students have John 8:47 and Luther’s Morning Prayer to recite on Tuesday. There will be no spelling unit this week. We are now beginning to work on a persuasive letter. Next week we will be finishing the book ‘Where the Red Fern Grows’ and watching the movie based on the book.
The Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success! Thank you for all the wonderful book donations for the classroom. They are very much appreciated by the students and myself and will be put to great use!

This week we are reviewing spelling units 7-11. The pretest on unit 12 will be Monday and the final test Friday. There will also be a math test on Thursday. We will be finishing our science unit on plants this week and there will be a test next Tuesday.
School dismisses at noon this Friday due to Teacher Collaboration Day. There will be no hot lunch that day.
Uncle Rays has combined the hot lunch orders for December and January. Please note that the pre-ordering for these months ends November 27, and the early bird ordering ends November 15.
It’s almost here! The Scholastic Book Fair will be coming to Apostles from November 17-21 and 23. Be sure to come and check out the great selection of items that will be offered. It’s sure to be a wild time!!!

Thank you for bringing your children to sing in church on Sunday. The students did a great job praising God with their voices! What a special way we were able to celebrate Reformation Sunday.

This week we will begin writing tall tales stories, and we are also going to begin reading the novel Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls.
School dismisses at noon on Wednesday, November 5. The teachers will be traveling to Southern California for Teachers’ Conference on November 6-7.
Things will soon be a little wild at Apostles!!! Wild about books, that is! We will be having a Scholastic Book Fair at Apostles Mon., Nov. 17 through Fri., Nov. 21 and Sun., Nov. 23. The students will be making art projects in school to display at the fair and also enjoying various activities during that week. Plan now to stop and visit and catch some of the excitement!

This week we are taking the Terra Nova standardized tests. Thanks in advance for having your child at school on time so that we can follow the testing schedule. There will be no piano lessons this week due to the testing! Lessons will resume the following week.
Due to the testing this week the class schedule and homework assignments will be lighter. Students are allowed to work on the assigned test and check their work on that test during the allotted time. Each child will also have a book to read should they finish the testing early.
A new memory calendar for the month of October was sent home on Monday. Please be sure to post the calendar and refer to it daily. Let me know if you would like an extra calendar for you and your child! This week’s memory schedule is as follows:

The catechism test covering lessons 1-10 and the science test on chapter 2 will be taken this Thursday. The students will take the unit 6 spelling test on Friday. The realistic fiction book report is due this Friday, October 3!
Next week the students will have a math test on Wednesday. The spelling unit 7 test and a test on the novel ‘Hatchet’ will be taken on Friday.

‘Happy Fall’ to you! I love the cooler weather and color changes that come with fall. Things in this life change often; how happy and blessed we are to know that our God will never change!
Next week Monday through Wednesday we will be taking the Terra Nova standardized tests. Please make sure that your child is at school promptly in order to stay on the testing schedule. It would be best to schedule any dr., dentist, or other appointments after 3:00 for that week. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation! There will be no piano lessons during teseting week. Lessons will resume the week of October 6.

The final “Keeping Our Children Safe” class is scheduled for this Monday evening at 6:15. This class is required for all parents who will drive and chaperone for field trips and work with the students.
Mid-term progress reports will be sent home this week Tuesday! We will be having Parent/Teacher Conferences to discuss student progress and any other questions or concerns you may have. Please look for the attached note concerning the conferences.
School dismisses at 12:00 noon this Friday for Teacher Collaboration Day. There will be no hot lunch on Friday.
Happy Birthday to Daniel on Thursday, September 25! Daniel will be having a pizza lunch for the entire class on Thursday, so the students will not need to bring a drink or lunch that day.

We are now entering week number three of the school year and the students and I are settling into our routines. I continue to enjoy learning more about the class and each individual student!
Please look for a chapel offering envelope which will be attached to the weekly note. These offerings go to help others around the world learn about Jesus. The eighth grade class is designating where the offerings will be sent and will let us know the chosen mission very soon. The envelopes can be returned to school any day during the week.
Thanks to all the students and parents for participating in our first singing opportunity of the year. The students did a wonderful job using their voices to praise the Lord!

The students will have their first math test this Tuesday! There will be a math test after each five lessons, and the test will cover all material previously studied. A review sheet will be sent home the day before each test. Please feel free to help your child review the material and prepare for the test.
This week we are finishing the first chapter in science. We have been studying cells and what they do, how body systems transport materials, and how bones, muscles, and nerves work together. The students will have a test next Monday. This first test will be a guided activity completed together as a class.
This week during reading class we will begin reading the novel “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. Gary was born in Minneapolis, MN and attended school in Bemidji, MN. We will be reading the novel over the next few weeks.

Please remember to send your child’s earthquake kit to school. All kits should be at school by Monday, September 8! Thank you to those who have already returned the kits.
Please be sure to have book covers on all hardcover school books. All books should be covered by Monday, September 8! Thank you for helping to keep the books in good condition.
Graded papers will come home in a folder with your child every Friday. Inside the folder there is a sheet for you to sign indicating that you have looked at your child’s work, and then the folder should be returned to school on Monday. All work should stay at home unless there is a note on the assignment, or if you have a question. Thanks!

Welcome back to school! I pray you had a wonderful and refreshing summer vacation. I am so excited for a great school year! I look forward to working together with each of you as your child grows academically, physically, and spiritually at Apostles. We are glad to welcome two new students to our class this year, as well as all the returning students! May God bless us with many fun-filled, enriching days!
This week in school we will be getting an introduction to the various subjects. We will be reviewing material previously learned and getting our minds ready for new things. School and classroom rules will be reviewed daily. I am confident that the Lord will bless our time together.

Happy last week of school! What a great year we had together. I am so thankful to have been privileged to teach your children and enjoy their individual gifts and personalities. What a blessing the parents have been to me as well. I truly appreciate all your support, encouragement, and classroom help throughout the year!
There are no memory recitations due this week. We will be working on spelling unit 35. The pretest will be on Monday and the final test will be on Wednesday. We will be finishing writing our funny stories from the year and sharing them with the class. We will also work on our math lessons, audio reading story, and science.
The pizza/yearbook party is this Tuesday, June 3, starting at 3:15 PM. It should be lots of fun!
The last day of school is Thursday, June 5. School dismisses at noon, so there is no hot lunch that day.
All students in grades 1-8 sing for the Graduation/Closing Service this Thursday, June 5 at 7:00 PM. I will need a written note, email, or phone call if your child will not be at the service. 4th quarter report cards will be handed out in the 5th grade classroom after the service. Report cards for students not at the service can be picked up from the school office starting Friday, June 6.
VBS will be held at Apostles during the weeks of July 21-25 and July 28-August 1. Bring a friend and join us for a week of fun as we learn more about our Savior!

This week we are on spelling unit 34. The pretest is Tuesday and the final test is Friday. The students are taking a cumulative English test on Tuesday that reviews all the grammar skills they have learned throughout the year. All students will take a math test on Wednesday. The students are taking the test on the novel Holes on Tuesday. We will conclude by watching the movie based on the book this Thursday afternoon.
Notes were sent home last week concerning the pizza/yearbook signing party. All students are welcome to come to the party even if they did not purchase a yearbook. Students will need a party ticket to attend. Please return the $3 fee to Miss Tjernagel by Friday, May 30! Thanks.
Grades 5-6 are going to Raging Waters this Wednesday, May 28! There are still three tickets left for 5th grade parents who wish to drive and chaperone. Please let me know on Tuesday if you are interested in joining us for the fun! : )
This Wednesday at 3:15 there will be a hot lunch company at school. Parents are welcome to come and sample the food from the company.

We had a wonderful Ascension Service last Thursday. The students did a great job of singing praises to God and sharing their Savior with others through the recitations and songs!

We will be reviewing parts of speech in English and writing stories of comparison. There will be a math test for all students on Friday. We begin reading the novel Holes this week. We will continue to prepare for the track meet by practicing running events, standing, long, triple and high jumps, and the softball throw. There will be a science test on matter and its properties this week Tuesday.
The practice track meet for grades 4-8 is at Cahalan Park on Wednesday, April 23. Parent volunteer forms were due Monday, April 14. Parent help is greatly needed and appreciated! Please let me know if you are willing and able to help. Thanks! The track meet in Citrus Heights will be held on Monday, May 5.

All students will take a math test on Wednesday. This week we will be reading stories from the hardcover reading book and we will also begin a new science unit.

This Holy Week we remember the last days of suffering Jesus endured for us, and his death on the cross. We are thankful Jesus paid the price for our sins and rose again so that we too will live with Him in heaven one day!
This is the last week of the 3rd quarter. Report cards will be handed out the week after Easter vacation. Have a very Blessed Easter and a wonderful week of vacation!

There are no Lenten services this Wednesday evening. There will be Maundy Thursday services on Thursday and Good Friday services on Friday. All students will sing in the Good Friday service at 2:00 PM.

This week’s spelling unit is 24 and reviews the words from lessons 19-23. The pretest is Monday and the final test will be Thursday. This Wednesday there will be an English review on adverbs, and the test will be next week Monday. This week we will begin working on writing poems. During the coming weeks we will also be writing some friendly letters. There will be no math test this week. Next week Monday we will have a science review and the test will be held on Tuesday.
The students will begin working on a non-fiction book report. All students should bring a non-fiction book to school for approval by Monday, March 17. Project directions will be sent home next Monday.
This week Friday we will be going on our field trip to see The Wizard of Oz at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. We will leave at 9:00 AM and plan to be back to school by noon.
Friday is a Teacher Collaboration Day, so school dismisses at noon. There is no hot lunch on Friday.

The students will begin a study of adverbs in English this week. They will finish their stories about being invisible for a day and will share with the class. All 5th grade students will take a math test on Thursday. The field trip we were scheduled to take in April to see Pinocchio was cancelled. We will now be seeing The Wizard of Oz on Friday, March 14. Please read and return the field trip note asking for drivers and chaperones that was sent home with your child on Monday. I will need seven chaperones for the field trip. The chaperones will be taken on a first-come basis as soon as the paper field trip note is returned to school. Thanks!

We reviewed on Monday, and there will be an English test focusing on adjectives this Wednesday. The students are writing stories about what they would do if they were invisible. We have some very creative minds at work! All students will take a math test on Wednesday. We will finish the novel Search for the Shadowman this week. The students are very curious to find out the ending to this interesting story. We will be finishing our science chapter this week as well.
Thank you for bringing your child to sing on Sunday. They did a wonderful job sharing the message of God’s love through song! The students will sing next on Wed., Feb. 27 at the 7:00 PM Lenten service.
The students are welcome to bring a valentine treat and/or card to share with each 5th grade classmate on Thursday. A class list was sent home on Friday. Please let me know if you need another copy.
Mrs. Pape has been sharing some art techniques with our class on Fridays. The students have been enjoying working on some pencil drawings. They will begin working on charcoal drawings soon, and Mrs. Pape would like each student to have a black charcoal set for art class. The charcoal can be purchased at Michael’s Craft Store for about $5. Please have your child bring the charcoal to school the week after President’s Day and Teacher’s Conf. vacation. Please speak to Mrs. Pape if you have any questions about the charcoal.

This week the students begin working on writing a character sketch. All 5th graders will take a math test on Wednesday. We have started a new unit in science on Earth and Space. Hopefully we will have some dry days for PE class – last week was a real soaker!
The Social Studies Fair is on Friday, January 25. The Open House is from 6-8 PM. If you have any questions please feel free to ask Mr. Stubalt or Mr. Fillner.
