5th Grade News!

I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Weekend! We certainly thank God for all the brave men and women who serve our country.
This is the last week of memory recitations. The schedule for the week is as follows:
Tuesday – Communion Part 4 (see May calendar)
Thursday - #405, 407, 409
This week we are on spelling unit 34. The pretest is Tuesday and the final test is Friday. The students are taking a cumulative English test on Tuesday that reviews all the grammar skills they have learned throughout the year. All students will take a math test on Wednesday. The students are taking the test on the novel Holes on Tuesday. We will conclude by watching the movie based on the book this Thursday afternoon.
Notes were sent home last week concerning the pizza/yearbook signing party. All students are welcome to come to the party even if they did not purchase a yearbook. Students will need a party ticket to attend. Please return the $3 fee to Miss Tjernagel by Friday, May 30! Thanks.
Grades 5-6 are going to Raging Waters this Wednesday, May 28! There are still three tickets left for 5th grade parents who wish to drive and chaperone. Please let me know on Tuesday if you are interested in joining us for the fun! : )
This Wednesday at 3:15 there will be a hot lunch company at school. Parents are welcome to come and sample the food from the company.
All students in grades 1-8 sing for the Graduation/Closing Service on Thursday, June 5 at 7:00 PM. This is the last singing opportunity for this school year.

The end of the school year is coming quickly. There are only three more weeks left, and they will be very busy and filled with activities!

Thank you to all the parents who were drivers/ chaperones for the field trip to the Cantor Art Center. We had a very enjoyable time and saw many forms of unique art. The students represented Apostles and our Savior very well!

This week we are on spelling unit 33. The pretest is Monday and the final test is Friday. The students are taking an English test on Monday. They will take an end-of-the-year English test next week Monday. All students are taking a math test on Monday. There will be a science test this week Thursday.

We are nearing the end of the book Holes by Louis Sachar. The students really enjoyed this novel, and we will be watching the movie based on the book. Please sign the permission slip and return to school by Friday, May 23. Thanks!

The 5th and 6th grade field trip to Raging Waters is Wednesday, May 28. Please return the permission slip and payment by Friday, May 23. Please note that we will be returning back to school by 4:30 PM.

Students in grades 1-8 will be singing in the graduation service on Thursday, June 5 at 7:00 PM. This is the last singing opportunity for this school year.

We had a wonderful Ascension Service last Thursday. The students did a great job of singing praises to God and sharing their Savior with others through the recitations and songs!

What a warm day we had at the track meet on Monday. Congratulations to all the participants for a great job! We certainly had a fun time.

This week’s spelling is unit 31. The pretest is Tuesday and the final test is on Friday. There will be a math test for all students on Thursday. The students will be watching the spring musical dress rehearsal on Thursday morning starting at 9:15 AM.

Come join us for the spring musical Way Out West in a Dress this Friday evening at Apostles at 7:00 PM! The doors will open at 6:00 PM. Come watch the thirteen 5th grade students that are in the performance – you’ll “dye” laughing!

The 5th grade is going on a field trip to Raging Waters on Wednesday, May 15. Please be sure to return the permission form and payment.

We will also be going on a field trip to the Cantor Art Center at Stanford on Thursday, May 15. A permission slip and driver/chaperone form was sent home on Monday. Please return the form by Monday, May 12.

Receipts from Oakridge Mall are worth double points! The deadline for turning in receipts for this year is Wednesday, May 14. Thanks for helping Apostles School through this program!

The yearbook staff is in need of pictures. Anyone with pictures from the track meet is welcome to put them on a CD and drop them at the school office for Mrs. LaRont. Thanks!
