Sept. 17 Weekly News

Smile!!! School pictures will be taken this Wednesday, September 19! Order forms need to be returned to Miss Tjernagel by Wed. if you will be ordering pictures. All students will have their picture taken regardless of whether pictures are ordered or not. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Book orders from Box Top are due this Friday, September 21. Please return any order forms and payment to Miss Tjernagel. Thanks!

Chapel offering envelopes are attached to the weekly note. Offerings can be returned to school any day during the week. II Corinthians 9:7 “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Memory passages will be recited Tuesday and Thursday. The Tuesday passages are #44 and the 2nd Commandment. Thursday passages are #30, 46, and 63. Hymn 280:1-2 will be recited by Friday. Please note that memory work is recited at the beginning of the day. Students should be prepared to recite upon arrival at school!

This week we are on spelling unit 4. A pretest is taken each Monday, and those students who correctly spell all the words are not required to take the test on Friday. All words spelled incorrectly on the pretest are written a specified number of times to help prepare for the final test. These spelling corrections are due each Friday!

The students did a great job on their personal narrative stories! It was enjoyable to find out more about each student. This week we will be working on some fun story starter ideas. The 5th grade will take their first English test on Monday, September 24! The test will cover the four types of sentences, complete and simple subjects and predicates, and quotations. A review for the test will take place on Wed., Sept. 19.

All 5th grade students will take another math test this Thurs., Sept. 20. The students will take a test after every five lessons, usually occurring once a week. A review will be sent home with the students on Wednesday. I was very pleased with the results from the first test – keep up the great work! : )

Have a great week! I look forward to the cooler fall weather! : )
