This week’s spelling unit is 22. Some extra practice at home will help your child with the compound words that are written as one word, those written as two or more separate words, and those that are hyphenated. The pretest will be on Tuesday and the final test will be on Friday.
The students will begin a study of adverbs in English this week. They will finish their stories about being invisible for a day and will share with the class. All 5th grade students will take a math test on Thursday. We will begin reading the novel The Sign of the Beaver in reading class, and we will also begin a new chapter in science on Earth and the Moon.
Grades 3-5 sing in the 7:00 PM Lenten service this Wednesday, February 27. Plan to join us for the supper held in the fellowship hall before church at about 5:45!
The field trip we were scheduled to take in April to see Pinocchio was cancelled. We will now be seeing The Wizard of Oz on Friday, March 14. Please read and return the field trip note asking for drivers and chaperones that was sent home with your child on Monday. I will need seven chaperones for the field trip. The chaperones will be taken on a first-come basis as soon as the paper field trip note is returned to school. Thanks!
This week is Spirit Week at Apostles, so be sure to show your school spirit each day by dressing up in the following ways:

It’s time for mid-term reports! The time is flying by, and we are part way through the 3^rd quarter. Mid-term reports will be sent home with your child this Friday. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

This week’s spelling is unit 21, words that end with ‘en’ and ‘ize’. The pretest is Monday and the final test is on Friday. We reviewed on Monday, and there will be an English test focusing on adjectives this Wednesday. The students are writing stories about what they would do if they were invisible. We have some very creative minds at work! All students will take a math test on Wednesday. We will finish the novel Search for the Shadowman this week. The students are very curious to find out the ending to this interesting story. We will be finishing our science chapter this week as well.

Thank you for bringing your child to sing on Sunday. They did a wonderful job sharing the message of God’s love through song! The students will sing next on Wed., Feb. 27 at the 7:00 PM Lenten service.

The students are welcome to bring a valentine treat and/or card to share with each 5^th grade classmate on Thursday. A class list was sent home on Friday. Please let me know if you need another copy.

Mrs. Pape has been sharing some art techniques with our class on Fridays. The students have been enjoying working on some pencil drawings. They will begin working on charcoal drawings soon, and Mrs. Pape would like each student to have a black charcoal set for art class. The charcoal can be purchased at Michael’s Craft Store for about $5. Please have your child bring the charcoal to school the week after President’s Day and Teacher’s Conf. vacation. Please speak to Mrs. Pape if you have any questions about the charcoal.

There is no school February 18-22 for President’s Day and Teacher’s Conference in Belmont. May you enjoy a blessed vacation time! We’ll see you back at school on Monday, February 25. Remember that Spirit Week is Feb. 25-29.

We are now entering the season of Lent, the time when we remember the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus. How thankful we are that God sent his son to take away all our sins so that we may be with our Savior in heaven one day. Join us this Wednesday evening at 5:00 or 7:00 PM for the Ash Wednesday Service.

This week’s spelling is unit 20. The pretest is Monday and the final test is Friday. All 5^th graders will take a math test on Tuesday. The students took a science test on chapter 2 on Monday. We will begin the new chapter about weather prediction and climate on Tuesday.

With all the sicknesses going around, please remember to call or email school to let me or Mrs. LaRont know if your child will be absent. Thank you for your cooperation.

Grades 3-5 sing in the 8:45 AM service on Sunday, February 10. Please sign and return the attached note by Thurs., Feb. 7. The students will meet in the fellowship hall at 8:30 AM on Sunday to practice.

The money for the April Pinocchio field trip is due by Friday, February 8. Please return the note and $10 payment in cash or by check made out to Apostles to Miss Tjernagel.

The 5^th grade animal book report is due this Friday, February 8. A note with the project directions was sent home several weeks ago. Please let me know if you need an additional note, or have any questions concerning the project.

February book order forms were sent home on Monday. Please return the forms and payment made out to Scholastic by Monday, February 11.
